Hurricane Ivan Memorial

Hurricane Ivan Memorial

Located near the ironshore, the Hurricane Ivan Memorial honors the resilience of the Caymanian people following Hurricane Ivan, a Category 5 hurricane that struck the Cayman Islands on September 12, 2004.

The memorial uses text, images, and symbols to commemorate the disaster and its impact on the islands, including Pedro St. James. The Great House, Theatre, Café, and surrounding vegetation suffered extensive damage, with restoration costs estimated at CI$1.4 million. Following a major restoration effort, this national historic site was reopened to visitors in May 2006.
