Pedro St. James

Cayman Islands National historic site located on 7 landscaped acres by the sea

Discover the unique heritage and culture of Cayman via this lovingly restored window into the 18th century that’s only a 20-minute drive from George Town. At a time in the Cayman Islands when most people lived in tiny, thatch-covered houses, a wealthy Englishman, using slave labour from Jamaica, created an astonishing 3-storey building called Pedro St. James.

A must if visiting this enchanting island
We are visiting in Cayman for the second year in a row. We are here with my brother sister and their spouses. We decided to visit this historic site and opted for the guided tour. Our guide, Trisha, was so passionate and knowledgeable. We learned so much and appreciated the info that Trisha had. No question went unanswered. If you are visiting the island and want to know the 'history'...

Great House, Great Guide
My husband and I reached this place by using the public bus from near the cruise port.
We could have wandered about the grounds and Great House on our own. We chose to take the guided tour. We were glad we did. There was only one other person in the group, so that was very nice.
Our guide Tracy Eden Hurlston is a descendent of the original plantation owner's family....

ENCHANTING
Lovely historic venue. We were there for a wedding and it was magical. We were early so went to the Outpost for a cold drink. Beautiful view of the sea. Really nice staff.

Oldest house on the island
Oldest original house on the island. Your visit starts with a few explanatory boards followed by a good, albeit rather long, introductory movie about the house and its owners, as well as more general history of the Cayman Islands. A few special effects included too!
Your fee usually also includes the services of a quirky local quide who is very knowledgeable about the house and the island.

Nice!
We went on a Sunday and it was very quiet. The movie was very cool. Our daughter got engaged at the gazebo while we were there. The gift shop's prices were very reasonable! The bar has a rum tasting for $5 - and the host was SO much fun and yep I did get a little tipsy by the time we were finished. A very nice visit.

Must visit
This is the oldest building on the Island and it is immaculate. Standing in it’s beautiful grounds which are so well maintained and lovely to explore. Excellent presentation of its history by expert guide in the comfortable audio room. Really amazing place to visit.
